Fort Collins, CO Love Story and Proposal : Carly and Sam

Couple from Fort Collins, CO

How They Met:

Carly and Sam met when they were in high school at a local ice cream shop. Although they attended the same high school, they had never met each other until his first day working at the ice cream shop she managed. Their first day at work together felt like a first date. Carly intended to train Sam on all the company’s policies and procedures but their chemistry was so strong that they spent most of the shift making jokes and getting to know one another. Once she was aware of his existence, she caught herself searching for him in every hallway on her way to or from a class, hoping to bump into him before their next shift together.

Carly and Sam spent the summer together and fell in love. Although Carly was nervous about Sam’s imminent departure for college, that didn’t stop them from setting the foundation for a beautiful relationship. A couple of weeks before he packed his belongings, they decided to commit to each other and make it work, despite the distance between them.

While on a beach vacation with her family, Carly got the news that her Dad had gotten a job and the family was relocating to Colorado. The news was hard to hear, especially knowing how difficult it would be for Sam to receive. She was convinced that the two of them were history and that she would have to end things. Maybe it was all for the best, she thought. He was beginning this new chapter in his life and she still had another year of high school to complete, in another city, far, far, away.

When she told Sam, he immediately said that he wanted to stay together and try long-distance. Calry helped him move into his dorm at Penn State and they arranged for him to come home and say goodbye before she flew out to Colorado with her family. The night before Carly flew out, Sam gave her a promise ring. He said it was the best way he could express his love and commitment.

They spent the 4 years doing the long-distance thing visiting each other every 6 weeks. Carly remained in Fort Collins while Sam enjoyed his time at Penn State studying kinesiology to become a physical therapist. After completing his 4 years, he applied to several grad school programs on the east coast along with 2 programs in Colorado. The thought of him studying so close to her helped get them both through the rest of their time apart.

Sam ended up graduating and getting accepted into Regis University in Denver, a 45-minute drive away from Carly. The two were over the moon that they could spend so much time with one another and have been growing together in one of the most peaceful and beautiful places on earth. Colorado.

How They Asked:

Sam and Carly have really taken advantage of all the beauty that Colorado has to offer and try to go on outdoor adventures as much as possible. For their 5 year anniversary, they took a trip to Pagosa Springs where they spent their time at the glorious hot springs and visiting the National Sand Dunes. They loved it so much that they decided to return.

The 5 hour drive from Denver was just as enjoyable as any road trip the couple had taken together. They joked around and enjoyed the picturesque scenery. Their Saturday was spent at the hot springs resort again where they relaxed in the pools and in the river. On Sunday, they scheduled to go hiking together, which they never got to do on their previous visit.

From beginning to end, the hike was breathtaking. The beauty of the trees, the fresh air, the fields, and the meadows was somehow topped by the lake. Opal Lake was, hands down, the most gorgeous place Carly had ever seen. They nibbled on some snacks while nestled under some trees and took in their surroundings.

It started getting dark but neither Sam nor Carly were ready to leave. He got up and started walking up a small hill, asking Carly to join her, saying the view was incredible. They reached the top and noticed they were alone. Sam began talking about their history together and everything they had been through. All of a sudden, Carly got it. Just as she was understanding what was about to happen, Sam reached into his pocket and pulled out the most beautiful custom-made diamond engagement ring from Fort Collins, CO.
