How They Met:
Gillian and Endo met while playing ultimate frisbee with a college-related church group. They were both dating other people at the time and didn’t really pay much attention to each other until after they were finished their season. Heading to practices together and having a beer with their group of frisbee friends afterwards created a nice bond between the two. They started attending the gym together and strengthened their friendship. Months later, both of them found themselves single at the same time but nothing changed. Their friendship remained strong and they both spoke about wanting to spend time alone before entering into a new relationship.
One day, while the two were out to see a movie together, which they did often, Endo brought up the idea that the two of them try going on a proper date, just to see if there was anything there. Gillian couldn’t help but laugh. She told him she would give it some thought, but that it wasn’t likely because she saw him as a friend. When she finally agreed, and opened herself up to the idea of possibly dating Endo, she knew right away that it was the best decision of her life.
Endo had always been so kind to Gillian and showed her time and time again what a good person he was, but she now received all his love and affection in a totally different way. They moved into an adorable apartment in Asheville, NC, and started building a life together.
How They Asked:
The two were set to go on an extravagant and romantic trip to Paris but, of course, COVID had other plans in store. Instead, Endo decided to plan an intimate weekend getaway at a special log cabin. He went shopping and bought all of Gillian’s favorite comfort foods, her favorite drinks, and planned a charming picnic. He packed up their car and asked Gillian’s sister to head to their place while Gillian was at work to pack her a bag with all the appropriate attire. He picked her up from work and just got on the highway, headed for the cabin. Gillian had no idea where they were going.
She was so surprised when they pulled up to the cabin and already started to suspect what Endo might do. He explained that he knew they would eventually go on their Paris trip, and this wasn’t meant to take its place, but was simply to provide her with a relaxing weekend getaway, far from work and daily life responsibilities.
They unpacked and had a lazy evening in front of the fireplace with a nice bottle of wine. They snuggled up while watching a movie and went to sleep. The next morning, they had their usual coffees and oatmeal for breakfast, went on a lovely walk, and headed back to freshen up. Endo had set up their picnic in the back by some beautiful trees near the water.
Gillian was so happy to see the romantic scene and thanked Endo for everything he had planned. She grabbed the wine and checked the label. It read: ‘So… Will you?’. She asked him where he got it and he just smiled in response. Just then, he pulled out a sparkling diamond ring that he had custom made in Asheville, NC, and asked her to marry him. Gillian burst into tears and, of course, said yes.
