How They Met:
Charlie and Meghan attended the same high school in their hometown of Troy, MI. They shared a couple of classes here and there but never said a word to each other until their senior year. Somehow, in that last year of high school, they found themselves in a new group of friends that had come about after a school-wide casino night. They teamed up and had such a blast playing all kinds of games that they all decided to hang out the next weekend, and the one after that, and the following one as well. Charlie and Meghan exchanged numbers after that and started texting almost daily. They realized they had a lot in common and started hanging out just the two of them, but just as friends.
They went off to separate colleges and lost touch. It wasn’t until meeting the next summer at a friend’s graduation party back home in Troy, MI, that they began speaking again. After a few weeks of constant communication, Charlie asked Meghan out on a proper date. The week after they both arranged to head back home to “visit family” and meet up again. Sparks flew and it was quite obvious that the two would start dating exclusively, despite the distance between them.
A year later, they decided to move in together and Meghan found that she could keep her major at his college. She transferred and they got a new place together that they loved. They turned a small apartment into a home and got a dog together a year later. Charlie got a job even further away after graduation but they loved their place so much, they decided to keep it and do long-distance. It was obviously the right decision because even though they’ve been apart for what is now most of their relationship, the bond between them grew stronger and they plan on spending the rest of their lives together.
How They Asked:
Charlie and Meghan always knew that they wanted to end up together, but didn’t exactly know when they wanted to get engaged. After many conversations, they both agreed that it would be best to wait until after they both graduated but again, they weren’t sure how long after would be appropriate. All this to say, Meghan was extremely surprised when Charlie asked her while they were still both attending college.
While both were home for the Christmas holidays, Charlie decided to approach Meghan’s Dad, take him out for a steak dinner and some beer, and ask for his blessing. Originally, Charlie wanted to ask Meghan to marry him at a beautiful apple orchard they had always wanted to visit but never got the chance. Seeing as Meghan’s favorite color is red, it seemed like a good idea to have her surrounded by shining red apples for their engagement photos.
Meghan’s birthday was approaching and of course, Charlie got a job out in Arizona. Meghan was disappointed that they wouldn’t be able to spend it together but they arranged for a belated birthday dinner upon his return. Little did she know, He had booked her a ticket and got her sister to pack a bag for her. He surprised her at the end of her Friday, picked her up, and told her they were going somewhere special. She was so overwhelmed when they got to the airport that she almost had a panic attack (Meghan likes to be in the know about anything that’s going on and doesn’t do well with surprises!). They landed, got settled in their hotel, had a beautiful dinner, and toasted to her birthday.
The next day, after Charlie’s work appointments, he took Meghan on a gorgeous hike with scenic views of Arizona’s idyllic desert. When they got to the trail’s peak, he got down on one knee and popped the question with a stunning diamond engagement ring from back home in Troy, MI. Meghan was floored and burst into tears. She still says she had no idea it was coming and that it was the best moment of her life!
