How They Met:

Mark and Sarie have always loved traveling, so it’s quite fitting that their first trip together occurred within their first month of dating. Although there were several empty seats on the bus, they always sat next to each other. Once they began dating, they joked that he might propose on the bus … but Mark had other plans. Phew!

They would regularly attend church together on Sundays and then cook dinner together in the evening. They’re both athletic, competitive, and enjoy watching sports, so over the years, they’ve had to adapt and accept each other’s favorite teams into their lives.

How They Asked:

Mark sent Sarie a calendar invite for a trip together, a surprise vacation. Knowing that Sarie likes to plan, he thought it best to give her some advance notice. Right before they were scheduled to leave, Sarie caught some sort of stomach bug so they decided to postpone. Luckily, they were able to reschedule all their reservations, which in the end, led to Mark proposing on Leap Day. Everything turned out the way it was supposed to.

The trip was to Palm Springs, where neither of the two had been before. They arrived at the most beautiful resort and spent their first day doing their favorite shared activities, enjoying poolside drinks, and relaxing together with the most beautiful scenery surrounding them.

The next day, Mark told Sarie that she needed to be ready for their dinner reservation at 5:30pm. She could tell throughout the day that he was getting more and more nervous, which was very unusual for him. She wasn’t quite sure why but knew that something was going on.

On their way to dinner Sarie remarked how much she loved this vacation destination because it included all of her favorite things: warm weather, palm trees, flamingos, and gorgeous scenery for supreme picture taking! Of course, that’s why Mark had chosen this specific location.

Mark brought Sarie down to the water at a beautiful spot with lots of flowers surrounding them. Earlier that day, Sarie had noticed how crowded the area was but magically, they were all alone. Mark took her hands in his and recapped their relationship journey together. When Sarie realized what was happening, tears began streaming down her face.
